Earlier in November, PPA’s Dr. Imani Burris and Maddie Thomas participated in two days of thoughtful dialogue on the importance of higher education at the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) conference in Lansing, Michigan. This annual convening brings together leaders from across Michigan who are dedicated to college access for students. Dr. Burris and Ms. Thomas also presented a policy brief on Michigan’s male college enrollment crisis.
Their presentation, To Degree or Not to Degree, discussed the persistent decline in male college enrollment in Michigan and provided an overview of actionable ways career counselors, teachers, and community members can communicate the value of college to young men. The content of PPA’s presentation fit perfectly with this year’s conference theme, Standing Firm: College Still Matters.
Public Policy Associates is also a long-time sponsor of the event, underscoring our commitment to promoting conversations and supporting convenings that improve lives, enrich communities, and strengthen institutions.
