A happy father and child

Public Policy Associates Senior Research Associate Nathan Burroughs will present findings of a study of Michigan’s shortage of substitute teachers to the Michigan Education Research Association on Nov. 25.

Dr. Burroughs was co-author of the report, which was funded by the Michigan Applied Public Policy Research grant program and the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, where he is also affiliated.

In a survey of school administrators, researchers found that nearly two-thirds said they were unable to find sufficient substitute teachers multiple times a week. You can read the report here.

The research has received substantial attention in the Michigan news media, including this Bridge magazine article. Dr. Burroughs was also interviewed by Gongwer News Service and Michigan Public Radio.

Dr. Burroughs is a member of PPA’s education research team. You can reach him at nburroughs@publicpolicy.com or 517-485-4477.
