When did you become interested in research and public policy?

My interest in research and public policy developed throughout my undergraduate social work education. As I learned more about the systems that influence people’s lives, I became increasingly interested in addressing issues at a larger scale. I realized that while direct practice is incredibly important, research and public policy provide opportunities to create lasting change that impacts entire communities. This interest ultimately led me to pursue the Organization and Community Leadership concentration in my MSW program.

What policy areas are you most interested in? Or what kind of projects or topics do you hope to work on in evaluation?

I’m especially interested in policies related to child welfare, community development, and improving access to social services. I’m passionate about strengthening nonprofit organizations and helping them better serve their communities. In terms of evaluation, I’m interested in understanding whether programs are achieving their intended outcomes and how research findings can inform meaningful improvements. I also enjoy exploring how organizations can use data to make decisions and advocate for change.

What drew you to social work?

I was initially drawn to social work because I wanted a career where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. As I progressed through my education and field experiences, I realized just how broad the profession is. I became particularly interested in the systemic issues that contribute to challenges individuals and families experience. I love that social work allows me to combine my passion for helping people with my interest in advocacy, leadership, and systemic change.

Who inspires you?

My mom is definitely my biggest inspiration! She is one of the hardest-working, most compassionate, and resilient people I know. She has always shown me the importance of working hard, caring for others, and staying true to your values. She’s someone who leads by example, and I hope to carry those same qualities into both my personal and professional life. She’s truly a rockstar!

Where would you like to be in five years?

In five years, I hope to be working in nonprofit leadership, public policy, or consulting, ideally helping organizations expand their impact and better serve their communities. I would love to work with nonprofits across Michigan, particularly in rural communities where resources can be limited. Ultimately, I want to be in a position where I can combine research, strategic planning, and advocacy to support meaningful organizational and community change.

Do you have any hobbies?

I really enjoy running, reading, traveling, and trying new things! I recently completed the Detroit Marathon, which was a major personal goal of mine. I also enjoy yoga, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

In my free time, I love spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, and staying active. I enjoy visiting coffee shops, trying new recipes, and spending time with my cat, Venus. I also love traveling and hope to continue exploring new places whenever I have the opportunity.
