September is National Hunger Action Month, and Public Policy Associates, Inc. (PPA) is proud to be supporting a wide range of organizations that are improving food security for vulnerable individuals and families.
Food policy is a central part of the work of PPA’s Healthy Communities Team, which is led by Dr. Nancy McCrohan. Here are a few of the projects PPA has been involved in:
- PPA is the evaluation partner of Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities. Their northern Michigan programming expands public engagement through the Farms, Food & Health Conference, increasing nutrition competencies of health providers, and supporting system-change efforts between community partners.
- PPA is working with Michigan State University’s Center for Regional Food Systems to identify and develop indicators of change for food-system priority areas. The work supports the 2020 Michigan Good Food Charter, which provides a road map for improving food sovereignty, access to healthy foods, health equity, sustainable production and climate resilience, fair labor, and profitable farm and food businesses.
PPA has supported several efforts to grow partnerships and promote collaboration between human service providers such as food banks and health care providers to address social determinants of health. Efforts have included work with the Food Bank Council of Michigan, Connecticut Health Foundation, and Feeding America West Michigan.
