Public Policy Associates, Inc. (PPA) President Paul Elam will lead a workshop on the Utilization of a Racial Equity Lens to Help Guide Strategic Engagement and Evaluation at the American Evaluation Association (AEA) Summer Evaluation Institute on June 18 and 19 in Atlanta, Georgia.
This session will focus on the practical use of a racial equity lens when conducting evaluations. Culture and race are important considerations when examining programs. If they aren’t taken into account, critical and substantive nuances are often missed, ignored, and/or misinterpreted.
Participants will be provided with a template for analyzing programs through a culturally responsive and racial equity lens, which was developed by PPA. The lens focuses deliberately on an evaluation process that takes race, culture, equity, and community context into consideration.
Participants will learn:
- A framework for conducting evaluation using a racial equity lens
- Key elements of the framework that can improve the quality of evaluation in diverse settings
- How to assess individual cultural backgrounds and explore how it may influence design choices in evaluation work
Over the past three years, PPA has worked to develop useful frameworks, tools, and approaches to help evaluators focus on the ways that race and culture might influence an evaluation process.
Dr. Elam will host the workshop with LaShaune Johnson, Creighton University, and Mindelyn Anderson, American University. The workshop will take place at the AEA’s Summer Evaluation Institute. Registration is now open.
