Partnering with the Food Bank Council of Michigan to improve access to fresh produce for food insecure Michiganders.
The Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM), in partnership with six regional food banks, created a statewide pilot focused on improving access to and consumption of fresh produce for low-income residents of Michigan, especially vulnerable seniors and youth. Through mobile site operations and on-the-ground nutritional programming and education, the program reached people in 771 zip codes in all 83 counties. PPA designed and carried out process and outcome studies, and found the program to be an important gateway to increasing fruit and vegetable consumption for this food-insecure population.
