PPA is in the process of facilitating the development of Michigan’s first statewide housing plan. This plan will guide not only the work of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), but will serve as a call to action for others looking to ensure the state’s housing ecosystem provides healthy, affordable housing for all in a community of their choice.
This ambitious effort has involved roughly 7,000 people to date, representing renters, homeowners, potential homebuyers, landlords, state agencies, statewide organizations, and a wide range of other traditional and non-traditional partners. To cement the plan in research, PPA conducted a benchmarking study to compare MSHDA to 16 other states’ housing finance authorities, reviewed the literature on housing trends and innovations, and held interviews with housing experts. To lift up the diverse voices of Michigan residents, PPA conducted a statewide public survey and held telephone interviews. In addition, a state-level partner advisory council and state agency group contributes to the process of developing priorities, goals, and strategies for the plan.
