A former communications specialist at Public Policy Associates, Inc. (PPA), Dr. Farhan Bhatti has been appointed to the Lansing School Board.
Dr. Bhatti, now a family practice physician, was chosen by the school board to fill one of two vacancies. He will serve through the November 2018 election.
“As CEO of Care Free Medical, too often I encounter patients who are underperforming in school—these are extremely bright children; however, they are not reaching their full potential,” he said. “On my own, as a physician I can treat their diabetes or correct their ADHD, but that is not enough.”
Dr. Bhatti said it takes the whole community to provide students with the guidance they need to thrive. This includes finding ways to occupy their time and engage their minds before and after school, connecting them and their families to resources, and designing curriculums that keep them motivated.
“I have dedicated my entire adult life to service—not just in medicine, but also in the public sphere,” said Dr. Bhatti. “Joining the school board is a great way for me to continue that service.”
PPA President Dr. Paul Elam said Dr. Bhatti is one of many PPA alumni making major contributions to society.
“We are proud to have had Farhan with us at the beginning of his career, he said. “It is exciting to see how he is contributing to health and education in our community.”
